Stupidity and the Other Biomarkers of Injury

That title got you didn't it? I intended it to be a little catchy but in no way want to imply anything negative about any person. And, on a very real note, I did title this in hopes that many of you will read this to simply gain more awareness about the aspects of fitness training that can lead to injury and hopefully feel empowered to avoid them.

I want to share with you 5 key "biomarkers" of injury that are a fundamental part of the Function Movement Screen (FMS), a mobility screening tool used by Physical Therapists and trainers around the globe. These 5 biomarkers of injury are fundamental to this screening instrument and are central to the curriculum surrounding the FMS and the corrective exercise programming that follows the screening process. So, in a nutshell, there are 5 primary things that typically contribute to injury and I want to share them with you here.

The Biggest Obstacle to Overcome is Yourself: Charlotte's Story

My journey of fitness began about 3 years ago at Sky. I have had the privilege of working with several awesome trainers. During that time I had been in and out of physical therapy, as well as receiving special treatments for multiple joint issues. A Private Trainer's Inspiration Leads to Healing

I have always been an active person and Sky Fitness & Wellbeing has been a part of my daily routine for many years.

As a teenager, I suffered a knee injury that was required to be surgically repaired. I was then plagued with numerous knee surgeries throughout my 20's and early 30's. Eighteen months ago, however, I was told that I needed a total knee replacement(tkr) if I wanted to continue to be active and keep up with my 4 children. I had gotten to the point where I was not physically able to do certain things, and it was only getting worse. I was only 36 years old. The thought of not being able to to do the things I enjoyed or being active with my children was not an option, so in to surgery I went.

Recycling Efforts Impact Sky's Members and Facilities

Recycling Bottles and Boxes Makes for a Greener Sky of South Tulsa

Sky is increasing recycling efforts based on requests from both members and team members alike. Our goal is to have more green recycling bins and containers readily available by placing them strategically around the facility. This is a trend Sky of South Tulsa has adopted thanks to team member and environmental guru, Carrie Witham. Before working at SkyKids, Witham was a teacher and always taught her students the value of recycling. Witham has now brought that same passion to Sky, resulting in a growing recycling program.

Q & A with PJ Cowan

Ever wondered what it's like to be a WBFF Pro? We sat down with PJ Cowan as he prepares for his big competition coming up this weekend.

Q: How did your fitness journey begin?
A: I've always played sports in high school. I was into football, basketball, baseball and track. I joined the 11 Bravo Infantry, which had a lot of physical requirements so I had to be in top shape for that.

Q: How did you get into private training?
A: After the military, I was injured in Iraq, and had 2 years of surgeries. For the first time in my life, I had no activities so once I was able to get back in shape I wanted to help others reach their fitness goals as well.

PJ won his Pro Card at his first Figure Competition in Kansas City this past June. Since then, he has been nonstop training in preparation to compete in the WBFF Pro Category at Worlds.

Always Moving Forward: Lights and New Projector for SkyView

Lights to be Completed This Week

We have seen a big difference at both locations with our new lighting system. They are much more energy-efficient and are guaranteed a longer lifetime.

With the installation of new LED lights, there are bound to be a few faulty bulbs in the mix. At Sky, we find those faulty bulbs and replace them immediately...it's just what we do.

We are experiencing a few light issues, but they are currently being worked on. The light issues should be completed by the end of the week and should not interfere with your workout.
